Forged Heart Gallery
Long a favorite theme of mine, more recently, making them has become therapeutic for me. A small piece I can offer toward healing a broken world.
Made for the Halstead Design Challenge, 2018.
Inside this hinged heart pin/pendant hides a small, heart-shaped shell fragment, epoxied and cold connected to the sterling back with a small, 18K wire staple. It shares its space with a chain bail for converting into a pendant and a small, rolled paper insert, stuck in the little pocket for a love note or written intentions of the heart. The pocket holding the note has small slivers of 18K gold sheet melted into the surface, symbolizing the preciousness and value of the loving heart.
I’ve engraved “Love is” and descriptive words both inside and on the back of the pin/pendant, all hidden from the front view, but implied by the intricacies of the forged, hinged, locking doors. The little chained clasp holds a sweet garnet cabochon.
Sterling silver, copper, apatite, moukaite and topaz.
